Bill Pendl and Art Feige

 Bill Pendl and Art Feige
The branch office was changing in physical ways. When I joined every IBM field marketing person from every division – Data Processing, Office Products, Service Bureau, and Information Records were on the second floor. Bill Pendl’s office was down past all the manager’s offices along the front of the building and far up line of offices along the end of the building. These were the offices that didn’t have doors. I was sitting in his office more than one afternoon when Art Feige, the branch manager, would pop his head in with a question. Bill would answer it and then with a smile ask Art, “Would you mind closing the door on your way out?” Art would just jerk his head with a little frustration and leave. “I just looove to do that to him,” Bill usually explained after Art had gone. He’d have that little smile on his face. It was Bill’s way of reminding Art of the value he brought to the group.
